A new trailer has been released for "Hope", the latest film from cult South Korean director Na Hong-jin, revealing the project to be a rare, big-budget Korean science-fiction spectacle rather than the straightforward monster thriller many expected. The roughly two-minute spot shows the film's characters hunting and fleeing a vicious galloping creature through a battered coastal village near the Demilitarised Zone, before glimpses of an alien spacecraft confirm its cosmic ambitions. It marks Na's first feature in around a decade, and distributors are banking heavily on its commercial appeal.

The film premiered in competition at Cannes in May, earning a six-minute standing ovation and sharply divided reviews ranging from rapture to bafflement, with The Hollywood Reporter's chief critic hailing it as a likely "instant cult classic". Set in the fictional town of Hope Harbor, it follows a police chief (Hwang Jung-min) and an officer (Squid Game's Hoyeon) pursuing the creature, alongside Hollywood names including Michael Fassbender, Alicia Vikander and Taylor Russell in supporting roles. Plus M Entertainment opens the film in South Korean cinemas on 15 July, with Neon releasing it in North America on 9 September; conceived as the first chapter of a potential franchise, it has pre-sold to around 200 territories, a record for a Korean title.
