Greenwich Entertainment has acquired the US distribution rights to A Girl Unknown, the debut feature by Chinese filmmaker Zou Jing, marking another example of a Cannes discovery being picked up for a North American release. The film premiered in the Critics' Week section of the 2026 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Fipresci Prize and the Gan Foundation Award, signalling strong critical interest in an emerging directorial voice from China.

The picture is a naturalistic coming-of-age drama that unfolds across 15 years during the height of China's One Child policy, following an adopted young woman as she moves through four households and takes on three different names. It builds on Zou's award-winning 2021 short Lili Alone and stars child actor Cao Ruofan alongside rising star Li Gengxi, with cinematography by the director's husband, Zhongqiang Liang. This week the Munich International Film Festival also awarded it the CineVision prize for Best International Film by an Emerging Director; Greenwich plans a tour of North American autumn festivals ahead of a theatrical release in early 2027. The Chinese-French co-production comes from Pure Light Films, Maneki Films and others, with the deal negotiated via Agathe Mauruc of Pyramide International.
