Sony Classics Closes Deal For Javier Bardem & Penélope Cruz Thriller ‘Bunker’
Sony Pictures Classics has acquired the drama-thriller Bunker, written and directed by Oscar-winning filmmaker Florian Zeller (The Father). The deal covers North American, Southeast Asian and worldwide airline rights, excluding France, and marks a continuation of Sony Classics' ongoing relationship with Zeller. The film pairs real-life couple Javier Bardem and Penélope Cruz, giving the acquisition notable awards-season potential.
The cast also includes Stephen Graham, Paul Dano and Patrick Schwarzenegger. The story follows an architect who takes on the morally ambiguous job of building a survivalist bunker for a tech billionaire, prompting his wife to question their 17-year marriage. An Oscar campaign is planned, with a qualifying run at the end of 2026 ahead of an early 2027 release. The deal was negotiated with CAA Media Finance and WME handling domestic sales and FilmNation Entertainment overseeing international sales, while Pathé will distribute in France, Switzerland and West Africa.
