‘£14.45 and you don’t even get any strawberries!’ Wimbledon’s new self-serve Pimm’s machine isn’t a hit with fans as they moan over cost and lack of fruit

Daily Mail · 2 hours ago

Wimbledon has introduced self-service Pimm's machines for the first time in the Championships' history, allowing spectators to pour the drink themselves in an effort to speed up service. The move matters because Pimm's is one of the tournament's most cherished traditions, and the automated approach has drawn complaints from fans who feel it cheapens the experience while still charging full price.

Being trialled on the Tea Lawn beneath Centre Court, the machines require customers to place a cup filled with ice and fruit under a nozzle and select their drink via touchscreen. Fans still pay £13.45 for the drink plus £1 for the cup despite doing the work themselves, and some, including 78-year-old Tim Jowitt from Arundel, said the automated version felt "a bit cheap" and lacked the traditional Wimbledon touch. More than 345,000 glasses of Pimm's are served across the fortnight at SW19.
