Pogacar dominates on Tourmalet as yellow jersey crashes
Tadej Pogacar produced a commanding victory on stage six of the 2026 Tour de France, winning atop the iconic Col du Tourmalet and reclaiming the leader's yellow jersey. The defending champion moved a significant step closer to a record-equalling fifth overall title, which would place him alongside Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain as the most successful riders in the race's history. His dominance over chief rival Jonas Vingegaard suggested a widening gulf between the two since the Dane last beat him at the Tour in 2023.
Attacking five kilometres from the summit on the 186.2km stage from Pau to Gavarnie-Gedre, the 27-year-old gained 30 seconds on Vingegaard and one minute 45 seconds on Remco Evenepoel and France's Paul Seixas, eventually finishing two minutes 38 seconds clear of Vingegaard. Pogacar now leads the general classification by two minutes 42 seconds, with team-mate Isaac del Toro third. The day was marred by a crash for previous race leader Torstein Traeen of Norway, who came down on the Tourmalet descent and was later ruled out with a concussion and multiple rib fractures; Britain's Tom Pidcock, hampered by illness, sits 15th, nine minutes 50 seconds back.
- Pogacar wins on the Tourmalet and retakes the yellow jersey.
- He leads Vingegaard by 2min 42sec overall.
- Former leader Traeen crashes out with concussion and rib fractures.
