New York City-based DJ and producer ZAINAB has announced her debut EP, ‘Canal View’, which will be released on 14th August through Technicolour, an imprint of Ninja Tune. The announcement arrived alongside the EP’s third single, ‘Banglahore’, a collaboration with Surya Sun, marking a further step in the artist's introduction as a solo act.

The EP's title refers to the neighbourhood where ZAINAB lived as a child, and the record is framed as a blend of Lahore and New York, reflecting her upbringing in Pakistan and later life as an immigrant in the United States. Several tracks, including the earlier single ‘Jadoo’, feature lyrics written and sung in Urdu — a language spoken by an estimated 246 million people globally that she argues is "severely lacking" in the dance music scene. The single ‘Banglahore’, whose title fuses "Bangladesh" and "Lahore", is presented as a symbolic gesture of reconciliation between Bangladesh and Pakistan, two countries with a difficult shared history.
