Sarah McLachlan and Allison Russell on Touring Together and Summer Nights Devoted to ‘Forgetting Madness and Being Part of Something Beautiful’
Canadian singer-songwriters Sarah McLachlan and Allison Russell have teamed up for a joint summer tour running through 9 August, framing the shows around music as a healing, communal experience where audiences can "forget madness" and reconnect. McLachlan is touring behind her 2025 album "Better Broken", following her successful 30th-anniversary tour for "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy", while Russell — recently more widely known for opening for Hozier and starring on Broadway in "Hadestown" — serves as her opener. The pairing carries echoes of McLachlan's Lilith Fair legacy, freshly revived by a new documentary.
Speaking to Variety by Zoom from Vancouver and New York, the pair reflected on the renewed interest in 1990s culture, which they attribute partly to the "Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery" documentary on Hulu and shows such as "Stranger Things", and to younger generations turning away from AI, surveillance and digital spaces towards zines and physical things. The two first met in real life at a Joni Mitchell "Joni Jam" at the Gorge in 2023, where they sang backing vocals alongside Annie Lennox behind Mitchell. They also recently performed together at the 2026 JUNO Awards in Hamilton, Ontario, and the article notes a full itinerary of their shared tour dates.
