Collider · 4 hours ago

Prime Video has confirmed that Blade Runner 2099, the long-awaited television series set in the dystopian universe of the Blade Runner franchise, will receive its first major public showcase at San Diego Comic-Con later this month. The reveal marks the franchise's first significant new release in nine years, following Blade Runner 2049 in 2017, and will give fans their first proper look at the show. The panel is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. PT on Friday 24 July, and will be shared with the third season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

Set further into the future than both the original 1982 film (which takes place in 2019) and its 2049 sequel, the series draws on the works of Philip K. Dick and its central premise of artificial humans, known as replicants, being hunted by "blade runners". Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh stars as Olwen, a replicant nearing the end of her pre-programmed lifespan, alongside Hunter Schafer, Dimitri Abold and Lewis Gribben. Created by Silka Luisa and produced by original director Ridley Scott, the show has no confirmed release date; the wider Comic-Con, which runs from 23 to 26 July, will also feature Prime Video panels for Batman: Caped Crusader, Reacher, its spin-off Neagley, and Mike Flanagan's take on Stephen King's Carrie.
