DC's latest superhero film, Supergirl, is reportedly being rushed to digital streaming just weeks after its cinema debut, following a disappointing box-office performance. The film, which opened theatrically on 26 June 2026, is only the second big-screen release in James Gunn and Peter Safran's rebooted DC Universe, and its underperformance has raised early doubts about the wider franchise plan that the pair set out after taking charge of DC Studios in late 2022.

Supergirl has grossed around $100 million against a reported production budget of $170 million, leaving it classed as a box-office bomb. Industry reports point to a digital release as early as 28 July 2026, though Warner Bros. and DC Studios have not officially confirmed the date. The film is part of the DCU's "Chapter One: Gods and Monsters" slate, which runs from 2025 to 2027 and includes five films alongside television titles such as Creature Commandos and Peacemaker; it follows David Corenswet's Superman as the universe's second cinematic outing, and was based on a script by Ana Nogueira.
