Indonesian Virtual-Production Horror Feature ‘Whispers of Fatimah’ Sets September Release, Unveils First-Look Video (EXCLUSIVE)
Indonesian mystery-horror feature "Bisikan Desa Gringsing: Whispers of Fatimah" has unveiled its first-look video and confirmed a September theatrical opening, its producers Mandela Pictures and Oceanus Media Global (OMG Studios) have announced. The film is notable as one of the first Indonesian horror features to be shot using virtual-production technology and an LED volumetric stage, marking a technical milestone for the country's genre cinema. The story follows Hesti, a young woman searching for her missing father who becomes caught up in the terror surrounding the restless spirit of Fatimah, said to have haunted the isolated village of Desa Gringsing for generations.
Directed and written by Ivander Tedjasukmana, the three-territory co-production between Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia used high-resolution LED walls displaying photorealistic digital environments in real time, rather than location shoots or green screens, to create the village's mist-heavy atmosphere. Aghniny Haque plays Hesti opposite Fatmah Nadhi as the spectral Fatimah, with an ensemble cast including Surya Saputra, Kiki Narendra and Mian Tiara. With post-production nearing completion, the film opens in Indonesian cinemas on 24 September, followed by releases in Malaysia, Singapore, Turkey and Azerbaijan; it was backed by Singapore's IMDA, the Studios Film Office and Indonesia's Ministry of Culture.
