Beck announces Ride Lonesome and releases new single In the Night

Rolling Stone · 2 hours ago

Beck has announced his 15th studio album, Ride Lonesome, due for release on 18 September via Capitol Records, and has unveiled a new single, “In the Night”, with a cinematic video. The announcement matters because it marks his first full album of new material since 2019’s Hyperspace, signalling a significant return after a long gap between records.

The new song was produced by Beck, mixed by Nigel Godrich, and features several musicians who also played on Morning Phase and Sea Change; its video was directed by Mikai Karl and stars French actor Denis Lavant. Beck said the delay followed the disruption of Covid, though he described the period as highly productive, with years spent writing, recording and building a studio. He had already previewed the album with the title track in April, later issuing an expanded version featuring Sierra Ferrell. To support the release, he will begin the Ride Lonesome North American tour in Vancouver on 16 September, with dates running until 31 October in Nashville.

  • Beck has announced his first new album since 2019.
