BandLab acquires Aiode, an AI music studio built on ‘fully-licensed’ audio
BandLab Technologies has acquired Aiode, an AI-powered music studio, adding it to its existing BandLab and Cakewalk platforms. The deal matters because it strengthens BandLab’s position in AI-assisted music creation while also highlighting an approach built around licensed training material, a contentious issue in the music industry. Aiode’s pitch is that its models are trained on audio that is fully licensed and traceable, with musicians involved in how their styles and performances are used.
The acquisition gives BandLab a three-part product lineup spanning mobile creation with BandLab, desktop production with Cakewalk, and AI-driven music-making with Aiode. Founded in 2022, Aiode lets users start from scratch or import their own audio, choose musician- or style-based models, direct performances section by section, generate alternate takes, and export either stems or a full mix. The move follows other BandLab AI initiatives, including SongStarter, a 2025 expansion of its AI licensing options, and a 2023 AI-focused partnership with Universal Music Group, all against the backdrop of wider legal and commercial disputes over how AI music tools are trained.
