Variety · 3 hours ago

A man breached security at the "Today" show's Rockefeller Center studio on Thursday morning and was arrested after lunging at co-host Craig Melvin while shouting a racial slur, according to sources familiar with the situation. The intruder had reportedly been trying to locate longtime weatherman Al Roker, and when he could not find him, confronted Melvin instead. Nobody was physically injured, and the incident was not shown on the live broadcast.

The confrontation occurred at around 9 a.m. ET and was first reported by TMZ, which cited law enforcement sources. NBC News had not immediately commented on the incident. Separately, "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie announced on Thursday's programme that she would be taking several weeks away from the show to film NBC's upcoming "Wordle" game show, produced by Jimmy Fallon and the New York Times, which is set to premiere in 2027.
