Anya Taylor-Joy Explains Why She Actually “Had Fun” Shooting ‘Lucky’s Intense Car Crash Stunt

Collider · 1 month ago

Ahead of the premiere of Apple TV's new crime thriller "Lucky," stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Drew Starkey spoke to Collider about key moments from the show's opening episodes, including a dramatic car crash stunt and the betrayal that sets the plot in motion. The series, based on Marissa Stapley's novel and created by Jonathan Tropper and Cassie Pappas, follows Luciana "Lucky" Armstrong, a grifter who is betrayed by her new husband Cary (Starkey) and left to take the blame for millions of stolen dollars, forcing her to flee both the FBI and the mob.

Taylor-Joy revealed that author Stapley had envisioned her in the role while writing the book, and that she came to the project through producer Reese Witherspoon, who invited her to co-produce the adaptation. Taylor-Joy, who also serves as a producer on the show, described the role as an extension of her collaborative approach to acting, giving her input from the earliest stages of development. She also discussed enjoying the demanding "human rotisserie" car crash stunt that closes the first episode, calling it a departure from her previous action roles.
