Australian Olympic cyclist Rohan Dennis has pleaded guilty to driving while disqualified, breaching a five-year ban imposed after the 2023 car incident in which his wife, fellow Olympian Melissa Hoskins, died. The case matters because prosecutors are seeking to have the new offence considered alongside Dennis’s existing good behaviour bond, potentially putting his suspended prison sentence at risk.

Dennis, 36, was stopped by police last month while driving with two children in the car. He received a 17-month suspended sentence in May 2025 after admitting recklessly creating a likelihood of harm; the court found he was not criminally responsible for Hoskins’s death. Hoskins died after falling from and later being struck by Dennis’s car during an argument in December 2023, and Dennis is due back in court in September.
