China dismisses Trump election interference accusations as ‘entirely fabricated,’ threatens countermeasures

Fox News · 1 month ago

China has rejected accusations from US President Donald Trump that Beijing interfered in the 2020 presidential election, calling the claims "entirely fabricated" and warning of possible countermeasures. The dispute arose after Trump used a primetime address to allege that Chinese officials sought to influence the outcome of the vote, adding to ongoing tensions between Washington and Beijing over election security and foreign interference claims.

In his Thursday night speech, Trump claimed that "in mid-2018, China was working to influence the results" of the US election, part of a wider set of assertions about foreign interference that he said intelligence agencies had concealed. Trump also accused a "shadow government" within the intelligence community of hiding evidence of Chinese meddling, releasing declassified material he said revealed "shocking vulnerabilities" in the electoral system. Beijing responded on Friday by firmly denying the allegations and signalling it may take retaliatory measures.
