Deadline · 1 month ago

Actor Rowan Blanchard has been cast in "The Drill", a dark comedy from director Millicent Hailes that begins filming in Texas next week. The project, from screenwriter Keatyn Lee, follows a high school drill team trapped in their gym during an active shooter lockdown, tackling the sensitive subject of school shootings through a comedic lens.

Blanchard, currently appearing in Hulu's "The Handmaid's Tale" spin-off "The Testaments" as Shunammite, brings 15 years of screen experience despite being in her early 20s, with past credits including "Snowpiercer", "A Wrinkle in Time" and "The Goldbergs". Hailes, an English director best known for her SXSW-premiered debut "Perfect" and music videos for artists including Lil Yachty, leads a producing team featuring Vince Jolivette, Tyler Payne, Jiarui Guo and Douglass Riggs.
