Magic: The Gathering Unveils Three New Mainline Sets for 2027 as Hasbro’s MagicCon Schedule Expands to Four Events
Hasbro's Wizards of the Coast has announced its 2027 release plans for Magic: The Gathering, unveiling three new mainline card sets and a schedule expansion for its MagicCon fan convention. The announcement, made during MagicCon: Amsterdam, signals the start of a new story arc in the game's fictional "Multiverse" and reflects the growing scale of both the card game and its accompanying live events.
The three confirmed 2027 sets are "Nauctis: The Sunken Realm" (5 February, an undersea-themed set), "Kamigawa: Titanbreach" (4 June, pitting the Kamigawa and Ikoria planes against each other) and "Zhalfir" (1 October, marking the return of the Zhalfir plane and character Teferi Akosa). These will sit alongside three unannounced "Universes Beyond" sets, made in collaboration with outside franchises, filling out the year. MagicCon itself will expand from three events to four in 2027, taking place in Detroit, Tokyo, Las Vegas and Amsterdam, while nearer-term releases include an August set inspired by "The Hobbit" and an October set, "Reality Fracture", concluding a story arc begun in 2023.
