Ederson extends contract after Man Utd move collapses
Brazilian midfielder Ederson has signed a contract extension with Atalanta after Manchester United withdrew from a proposed £35m transfer following concerns raised during his medical. United had agreed the fee for the 27-year-old on 2 June, but the deal unravelled after specialists flagged an area of concern during testing, leading the club to pull out despite earlier suggestions the move could be revived later in the summer.
The medical process was complicated when Ederson received a late World Cup call-up for Brazil after an injury to Wesley, forcing an initial round of tests in the United States before he later flew to England for further examination in the wake of Brazil's last-16 exit to Norway. Atalanta have not disclosed the length of his new contract. Manchester United, meanwhile, have strengthened their midfield elsewhere this summer, signing Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa and Andrey Santos from Chelsea, as well as goalkeeper Karl Darlow from Leeds United.
