Collider has compiled a list of ten classic rock songs whose lyrics or themes have not aged well by today's standards, ranging from racial and sexual insensitivity to glorified misogyny and stalking. The piece argues that although these tracks remain radio staples and fan favourites decades after release, revisiting them highlights how much social attitudes have shifted, with some artists themselves acknowledging the problems in hindsight.

Examples include Dire Straits' "Money for Nothing" for its use of a homophobic slur, The Beatles' "Run for Your Life" for lyrics depicting jealous rage towards a partner, and The Rolling Stones' "Brown Sugar" for its sexualised depiction of slavery, a song Mick Jagger admitted in 1995 he "would never write now" and which the band dropped from setlists in 2021. Led Zeppelin's "Sick Again" is criticised for demonising underage groupies, while Blondie's upbeat "One Way or Another" is noted for masking a dark true story, as Debbie Harry later revealed she had nearly been abducted by serial killer Ted Bundy.
