## Summary

The article ranks 10 Netflix science-fiction series for how effectively their opening scenes draw viewers into their stories. It argues that gripping first impressions, unusual premises and mysteries can make a series worth committing to, spanning dystopias, futuristic epics, animation and psychological puzzles.

It highlights 1899, which begins with a cryptic signal leading passengers aboard the Kerberos to a missing sister ship, building an eerie atmosphere before its larger story was resolved.
