Sky has announced an eight-part television adaptation of Stieg Larsson's *The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo*, fifteen years after David Fincher's 2011 film version starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara. The new series, from Left Bank Pictures, will update the story to the present day while remaining faithful to its characters and investigative themes, and its longer format is expected to allow far greater depth than a feature film could offer.

Writers Steve Lightfoot and Angela LaManna will produce and write the show, which is due to begin filming in Lithuania in 2027; casting has not yet been revealed. Larsson's novel packs in journalist Mikael Blomkvist's investigation, the Vanger family's dark history, financial corruption and a wider conspiracy, all of which the film had to compress into under three hours. An eight-episode run is expected to give the mystery, the Vanger family and Lisbeth Salander more room to breathe, and could better reflect the wider Millennium book series, which continued beyond Larsson's original trilogy.
