Peter Jackson's 2009 film adaptation of Alice Sebold's novel The Lovely Bones has become available to stream on Paramount+ from 1 August, marking its return to a major streaming platform 17 years after its release. The news comes amid renewed attention on Jackson, whose original vision helped bring The Lord of the Rings to the screen, following fresh details about the upcoming The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum, a film he is producing and co-writing but not directing.

The Lovely Bones, a supernatural crime thriller running 135 minutes, was only Jackson's second project after completing The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and he co-wrote the screenplay with longtime collaborators Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens. Its cast includes Mark Wahlberg, who replaced original star Ryan Gosling, alongside Rachel Weisz, Susan Sarandon and Stanley Tucci, while the film also served as an early star vehicle for Saoirse Ronan. The Hunt for Gollum, by contrast, is set for theatrical release on 17 December 2027 with Andy Serkis directing, and will feature returning actors such as Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen and Lee Pace alongside newcomers including Jamie Dornan, who replaces Viggo Mortensen as Aragorn.
