$170M Fantasy Remake Officially Has the Power With Over 1B Minutes Watched

Collider · 2 hours ago

Amazon's fantasy remake, believed to be Masters of the Universe, has surpassed one billion minutes watched on Prime Video, according to the latest Nielsen streaming report, despite underperforming at the box office during its theatrical run. Directed by Travis Knight and starring Nicholas Galitzine alongside Jared Leto, Camila Mendes, Idris Elba, Alison Brie and Morena Baccarin, the roughly $170 million production illustrates Amazon Studios' case-by-case approach to theatrical windows, releasing under-performing films to streaming relatively quickly while giving stronger performers, such as Project Hail Mary, extended cinema runs.

The film debuted in cinemas on 5 June before arriving on Prime Video on 22 July, just under two months later, a gap shorter than Red One's window but longer than Project Hail Mary's extended theatrical run. Nielsen's figures, which track streaming viewership with a one-month delay, cover the week of 20–26 July, the film's debut week on the platform, and show it comfortably clearing the billion-minute mark despite falling well short of box-office expectations during its theatrical release.
