Disney has offered the first public update on The New Simpsons Movie, confirming the animated family’s return to cinemas 20 years after the 2007 film. Shown at the D23 Expo, an early animatic suggests the sequel will retain the series’ broad physical comedy and Springfield-wide chaos, while the long-running television programme continues towards its 40th season.

The preview centres on Homer at a baseball game with Lenny, Carl and Kirk Van Houten. After he drops a home-run ball, it bounces through the stadium and into Springfield, prompting a chase involving familiar locations and characters before reaching Bart; the film is scheduled for release in 2027, though its story and creative team have not yet been confirmed.
