The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is due in cinemas on 20 November, marking the next instalment of a franchise that has grossed $3.3 billion, and arrives roughly 100 days from now amid what is being described as an especially strong year for cinema. The film is a prequel set decades before Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss Everdeen competes in the 74th Games, and instead centres on a young Haymitch Abernathy, played by Joseph Zada in the role originated on screen by Woody Harrelson.

The film is adapted from Suzanne Collins's latest novel in the dystopian book series, which sold more than 1.5 million copies worldwide in its first week, a franchise record. Its release follows a bumper year at the box office that has already seen The Super Mario Galaxy Movie, Michael and Toy Story 5 surpass $1 billion, with Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey and Spider-Man: Brand New Day — which broke the domestic opening-weekend record previously held by Avengers: Endgame — also contributing, while Dune: Part Three and Avengers: Doomsday are still to come.
