- Authorities had not said whether those affected were visitors or workers.

## Summary

A rockfall at Cappadocia, a major tourist destination in central Turkey, killed three people and injured five on Thursday. It happened near the Goreme Open-Air Museum after heavy rain, when fragments broke away from a distinctive rock formation known as a fairy chimney.

Nevsehir Governor Huseyin Kok said two of those killed were Turkish nationals; the third person’s identity was not given. It remains unclear whether those affected were tourists, workers or others, and rescue teams searched the rubble. Cappadocia is known for its fairy chimneys, cave dwellings and ancient rock-cut churches.
