## Key points

- Three 1974 hits are framed as lasting club anthems.
- Blue Swede’s song first appeared in Sweden in 1973.
- Lennon said “Rock Your Baby” inspired him.

## Summary

Three songs associated with 1974 are presented as enduring club favourites: Blue Swede’s “Hooked on a Feeling”, Elton John’s “The Bitch Is Back” and George McCrae’s “Rock Your Baby”. The article argues that their catchy hooks, confident mood and danceable sound still have the energy to bring a club floor to life.

“Hooked on a Feeling” was first released in Sweden in 1973, then went international in February 1974 and became Blue Swede’s one major hit. Elton John’s song took its title from a phrase Bernie Taupin’s wife used about John’s attitude, while “Rock Your Baby” featured a Roland TR-77 drum beat and McCrae’s falsetto; John Lennon later cited it as an influence.
