## Key points

- Four 1986 hits still have recognisable lyrics.
- Nick Berry’s song displaced Madonna at UK chart top.
- Device’s single reached No. 35 on Billboard.

## Summary

Four memorable 1986 lyrics came from songs whose performers are often remembered as one-hit wonders. The article revisits the tracks and their chart histories, showing how a lyric can remain familiar even when the artist’s wider catalogue is less well known.

The songs are Timbuk 3’s “The Future’s So Bright, I Gotta Wear Shades”, “Every Loser Wins” by EastEnders actor Nick Berry, Ric Ocasek’s solo track “Emotion in Motion” and Device’s “Hanging on a Heart Attack”. Berry’s song reached the top of the UK Singles Chart, replacing Madonna’s “True Blue”; Ocasek’s was his only solo Top 40 hit. Device’s single peaked at No. 35 on the Billboard chart, and its video received heavy MTV rotation.
