## Key points

- Four vocalists make a case for rock’s continuing appeal.
- Hayley Williams and Amy Taylor bring contrasting intensity.
- Vessel and Miley Cyrus show rock’s range and crossover reach.

## Summary

The article highlights four vocalists it argues show that rock remains compelling in the 2020s: Hayley Williams, Amy Taylor, Sleep Token’s anonymous frontman Vessel, and Miley Cyrus. It presents their range, intensity and distinctive styles as evidence that rock can still inspire awe, even though it has less influence on popular culture than in past decades.

Williams is praised for moving between intimate singing and powerful belts, while Taylor’s raspy vocals bring raw punk energy to Australian band Amyl and the Sniffers. Vessel’s wide range and earnest delivery stand out despite Sleep Token’s theatrical anonymity. Cyrus, though primarily a pop star, is described as a rock-adjacent crossover artist whose vocals could suit a fuller move into the genre.
