American Songwriter has published a list highlighting four country songs from the 1960s that remain widely recognisable today, spotlighting how the decade shaped the genre. The piece frames these tracks as enduring standards that listeners who grew up in the 1960s can still recall word for word, underlining their lasting cultural imprint.

The selections are Johnny Cash's "Ring of Fire" (1963), co-written by June Carter and Merle Kilgore; Patsy Cline's "Crazy" (1961), written solely by Willie Nelson and later a Top 10 hit for Linda Ronstadt in 1977; Merle Haggard's partly autobiographical "Mama Tried" (1968); and Loretta Lynn's "You Ain't Woman Enough (To Take My Man)" (1966), which she wrote alone in around ten minutes after real-life events inspired it.
