- Doc Brown’s final line promises more adventures.
- The trilogy travels to 2015 and 1885.

## Summary

The article argues that *Back to the Future* transformed time travel films by combining science fiction with comedy, adventure and memorable characters. Its closing line, “Roads. Where we’re going, we don’t need roads,” captures the film’s promise that its world could take the characters anywhere and make the seemingly impossible believable.

Released in 1985, the film was the year’s biggest box office hit, starring Michael J. Fox as Marty McFly and Christopher Lloyd as Doc Brown. The DeLorean needed 1.21 gigawatts of power and a speed of 88 mph to travel through time; in the finale, it takes flight, setting up journeys to 2015 in *Part II* and 1885 in *Part III*.
