## Key points

- The article proposes remakes of eight classic films.
- It highlights modern effects and 3D technology as opportunities.
- *Dial M for Murder*, *The Wizard of Oz* and *Clue* are among its examples.

## Summary

The article argues that eight classic films could benefit from modern remakes, while recognising that remaking a celebrated original is difficult. It says updated filmmaking technology and enduring themes could give new versions a fresh appeal for today’s audiences.

Among its examples, *Dial M for Murder* could use modern 3D techniques to add a new dimension to Hitchcock’s inverted-mystery plot. A remake of *The Wizard of Oz* could draw on contemporary visual effects while retaining its themes of identity and individuality, and *Clue* is cited as a cult comedy with a premise that could still work on screen.
