## Summary

The article highlights eight action books it argues are more thrilling and satisfying than films, spanning contemporary thrillers and classic adventure. It makes the case that books can build suspense through precise detail and richer characterisation, while also noting cinema and literature have long influenced one another.

The selections include Gregg Hurwitz’s *Orphan X*, about a former government-trained assassin turned vigilante; Robert Louis Stevenson’s *Treasure Island*, following Jim Hawkins on a hunt for buried treasure; and Lee Child’s *Killing Floor*, which introduces Jack Reacher amid a murder case and town conspiracy. The article also notes *Orphan X* has a planned television adaptation, and presents the three books as examples of the list’s mix of modern and foundational action fiction.
