Families of some victims of the 11 September 2001 attacks have launched a petition urging organisers to bar New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani from attending this year's 25th anniversary remembrance ceremony in Lower Manhattan. The petition, addressed to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, cites what it describes as Mamdani's hostile public record and alleged minimisation of the attacks, reflecting wider tensions over the Democratic socialist's positions since taking office as mayor.

The campaign was organised by Giovanni Galante, who lost his wife Grace in the attacks, and lists a series of criticisms of Mamdani, who was born in Uganda. It comes amid separate controversy involving the mayor, including calls from a New York assemblyman for the Department of Justice to investigate him and protect Jewish New Yorkers following stabbing attacks, as well as Mamdani's own calls, echoed by former mayor Bill de Blasio, for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
