- Bernthal has since returned to the character in Marvel projects.

## Summary

Jon Bernthal’s portrayal of Frank Castle in *The Punisher* is praised as a particularly strong match between actor and character. The series follows Castle’s pursuit of those responsible for his family’s deaths while exploring his trauma and the limits of revenge, setting it apart from superhero stories centred on people with special powers.

Across two seasons, Castle works with tech expert David “Micro” Lieberman and confronts former friend Billy Russo, whose role in his family’s deaths leads to his transformation into Jigsaw. The series ended in 2019, but Bernthal later returned as Castle in *Daredevil: Born Again* and continued with *The Punisher: One Last Kill* and *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*.
