Hondo, a 1953 John Wayne Western, is being removed from Paramount+ in August 2026. The film is notable partly for its troubled production during Hollywood's brief mid-1950s 3D craze, and for the fact that its original director had to leave partway through, with the finishing work completed by John Ford, one of the most acclaimed and controversial directors of classic Westerns.

Wayne, who starred in Hondo, remains a favourite of filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, who has praised the actor's consistent screen persona and cited Wayne's Rio Bravo, directed by Howard Hawks, as among his own all-time favourite films. Tarantino has, however, been openly critical of Ford, accusing him of perpetuating harmful depictions of Native Americans in his Westerns.
