Sisters of Solitude is a forthcoming top-down, 8-bit-style horror mystery from Jesse Malcolm Sweet, a former Assassin’s Creed Unity director whose inspiration came from visiting abandoned convents for a film project. Players investigate the murder of a Mother Superior inside a haunted convent, making the game notable for combining religious gothic settings, open-ended exploration and ghost-hunting tools.

The convent is inhabited by the ghosts of four sisters accused of the killing, while locations include a chapel, greenhouse, cemetery and old theatre. Players will search diaries and secret passages, use rituals connected to the trapped spirits, and employ gadgets such as an electromagnetic field detector, instant camera and tape recorder to uncover documents, spectral traces and whispered messages. Sweet later worked for four years as artistic director at film non-profit Kino Montreal; the game is due this year.
