A fourth RuneScape game is under development using Unreal Engine
Jagex has announced RS4, a fourth major RuneScape game being developed with Unreal Engine. The new MMO will expand the series while sitting alongside existing games rather than replacing them, and Jagex says it is still several years from release.
Set in the Sixth Age, years after RuneScape: Dragonwilds, RS4 begins in Ashenfall, an area first introduced in that game. It began as a Dragonwilds expansion called Shadows of Ashenfall before evolving into a standalone MMO; a short trailer hints at dragon riding and combat. Jagex plans to share more details next year and also announced an early-stage RuneScape animated series being developed with Lyrical Animation and YouTuber MoistCr1TiKaL.

RuneScape is a fantasy adventure game where you control a character that explores a shared world with millions of other players from around the world. Created by British studio Jagex in 2001, it has been continuously developed and played by devoted communities for more than two decades.
Rather than consolidating all players into one version, Jagex has maintained multiple separate versions of RuneScape, each catering to different preferences. This means that players can choose which version suits them best, whether they prefer the game's original style or a more modernised approach, all set in the same fictional world.
The RuneScape franchise is notable for how it has remained actively developed and played for more than two decades in an industry where most games eventually become obsolete. This longevity is rare and reflects both the quality of the original game design and the dedication of its player community.
