## Key points

- A journalist fell on the Capitol steps while approaching Trudeau.
- He had hoped to ask about baseball returning to Montreal.
- The writer wonders what caused the fall.

## Summary

A journalist recounts falling on the steps of the US Capitol while trying to ask then-Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau about the possibility of Major League Baseball returning to Montreal. The mishap stopped the question from being asked and became an enduring story about the incident, which the writer playfully frames as a possible ghostly encounter.

The fall happened on a July day after Trudeau had met House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. The writer says he was carrying a microphone and chose not to break his fall with his hand, recalling his martial arts training and wondering whether fatigue, his shoes or something unexplained caused him to stumble. The article also gives the baseball context: Montreal lost the Expos to Washington in 2005, and the Tampa Bay Rays had reportedly considered splitting their season between Florida and Montreal.
