## Key points

- PS5SX2 can run some PS2 games on jailbroken consoles.
- The jailbreak requires outdated firmware and cuts off PSN access.
- PC, Steam Deck and Android offer alternatives without changing the PS5.

## Summary

A homebrew emulator called PS5SX2 lets some jailbroken PlayStation 5 consoles play PS2 games, including directly from DVD discs. It adds features such as 4K upscaling and widescreen support, but using it means giving up access to key PS5 services and newer games.

The jailbreak works only on consoles running system software version 13.60 or earlier; Sony patched the exploit in version 14.00, and PSN sign-ins on older firmware have reportedly been blocked since mid-October. PS5s cannot read CDs, so some PS2 games are incompatible from disc, though they can be copied from a PC. The article says the loss of online play, the PlayStation Store and future game compatibility makes other devices a more practical way to play PS2 titles.
