Google has launched a native Gemini app for Windows, bringing its AI assistant directly to PC desktops for the first time via a dedicated application rather than a browser tab. The release follows an earlier Mac version and gives Windows users a faster, more integrated way to access Google's AI tools alongside their other software, reflecting the broader push by tech firms to embed AI assistants more deeply into everyday computing.

The app works on both Windows 10 and 11 and can be summoned instantly with the keyboard shortcut Alt + Space, mirroring the Mac experience. It connects with other Google AI products, including the agentic assistant Gemini Spark, Gmail and Google Drive, and supports image and video generation through Nano Banana and Gemini Omni. Google describes the app as "lightweight and quiet" so it won't slow down PCs, and says further native desktop features are planned. The app is available to download now.
