Peter Gabriel has released “Face The Wall”, the ninth song issued ahead of his forthcoming studio album, oi. Following the more upbeat “One By One”, the single confronts ageing, illness and mortality, while suggesting that acknowledging death can help people live more fully and find hope in difficult circumstances.

Gabriel describes the song as becoming increasingly intense before reaching a cathartic conclusion in the line “I see you coming through”. Its artwork features Tadashi Kawamata’s installation The Nest, which Gabriel sees as symbolising death’s solidity alongside messy, unconventional human resilience. As with the 2023 album i/o, he is releasing a new track every full moon, with oi expected later this year.
