MGM+'s Robin Hood has been renewed for a second season, with three new cast members joining the acclaimed modern retelling of the Sherwood Forest legend. The addition of these experienced actors signals an expansion of the show's scope beyond Nottingham, taking the story into the royal courts of England and continental Europe, where political intrigue is set to threaten Robin and his Merry Men. The casting news follows the first season's success with both audiences and critics, a notable achievement for a genre that has struggled to find modern hits.

According to Deadline, the newcomers are Colin O'Donoghue (Once Upon a Time), James Purefoy (Rome), and Luke Roberts (The Batman). Purefoy, recently seen as the king of Eternia in Masters of the Universe, will play Henry II, King of England, while O'Donoghue takes on the role of his son John, depicted as power-hungry and cowardly in keeping with earlier Robin Hood adaptations. Roberts will portray Amaury D'Montfort, an ambitious nobleman seeking royal favour, adding a further layer of courtly scheming to the series.
