When surveyed last autumn, the DfT recorded a load factor of 170% on the service, though LNR says seating has since risen from 460 to 812. Commuters interviewed, including a computer science intern travelling to Walsall, a data analyst heading to Manchester, and a passenger going to Rugby, described routinely being unable to find a seat, sitting on the floor or in gangways, struggling with luggage, and enduring hot, stuffy conditions despite air conditioning, with some also recalling cancellations and lengthy delays.
