A second Star Trek game is going to be delisted in 2026

Polygon · 2 hours ago

Star Trek Legends, a strategy RPG developed by Emerald City Games, will be delisted from PC storefronts on 20 August, having already been pulled from consoles earlier this year. The game will become entirely unplayable from 3 September, when its servers are taken offline, though some Steam reviewers suggest it may already be broken. This marks the second Star Trek game to vanish from sale this year, following Star Trek: Resurgence's delisting earlier in the summer, and raises questions about the longevity of future titles in the franchise.

Star Trek Legends began life as an Apple Arcade title before being ported to consoles and PC, and tasked players with assembling crews of captains and characters spanning the franchise's history. Unlike Resurgence, which remains playable for those who already own it, Legends will stop working entirely once taken offline, leaving existing owners unable to access it. The game lasted roughly two years on Steam, while Resurgence managed about three, prompting speculation over how long the newer Star Trek: Voyager – Across the Unknown, released in February to a warm reception, might last. Next up for the franchise is Star Trek: Shadow Frontier, a horror game from the studio behind the Silent Hill 2 remake.

Star Trek games have had a mixed run when it comes to staying available once launched, with titles sometimes pulled from sale and then switched off entirely rather than left playable indefinitely. Star Trek Legends is a strategy role-playing game, originally made for Apple's mobile gaming service before being adapted for consoles and PC, in which players build teams of characters from across the Star Trek franchise's history.

The developer, Emerald City Games, has already removed the game from consoles and is now withdrawing it from PC stores too, with the servers it relies on due to be switched off shortly afterwards. This means that unlike some delisted games, which can still be played by people who already own them, Legends will simply stop working for everyone once its servers go dark.

It follows the earlier removal of another Star Trek title, Resurgence, this summer, making it the second game tied to the franchise to disappear in the same year. Together, the two cases have drawn attention to how long licensed video games in general, and Star Trek titles in particular, can be expected to remain playable after release.
