Musicians and friends from across the industry have paid tribute to Irish singer-songwriter and actor Glen Hansard, who died in a motorcycle accident on the outskirts of Dublin in the early hours of the previous morning. Hansard was widely respected not only for his music but for his personal generosity, with tributes from figures including Bono, Bruce Springsteen and Bob Geldof highlighting his compassion and his commitment to helping people experiencing homelessness. His death has prompted an outpouring of grief across the music world and beyond.

Hansard was frontman of The Frames, one half of folk rock duo The Swell Season, and a member of Eddie Vedder's solo band The Earthlings. His latest solo album, Don't Settle – Transmissions West, was released only last month. Dublin Mayor Daryl Barron has opened a book of condolence, and Bono's tribute in particular praised Hansard for genuinely embodying his public image, noting his habit of checking on rough sleepers and his efforts to reduce homelessness, as well as his affinity for performing on the street.
