Sega has released a trailer for its animated Golden Axe series, an adaptation of the classic beat-'em-up games, confirming the show will launch on Paramount+ on 16 September. The series is part of a wider push by Sega to revive dormant franchises through television and film alongside fresh entries in some of its old game series, and the newly released trailer leans heavily on knowing nods to the source material, including a character-select screen reference and jokes about mini-bosses and progressively tougher enemies. The first season will run for ten episodes, though the exact runtime per episode has not been confirmed.

The series follows three heroes attempting to save the kingdom of Yuria from the villainous Death Adder, wielder of the titular Golden Axe. The voice cast includes Liam McIntyre as Ax Battler, Lisa Gilroy as Tyris, Matthew Rhys as Gilius, and Danny Pudi as new character Hampton Squib. Created by Mike McMahan (Star Trek: Lower Decks) and Joe Chandler (American Dad), the show was originally intended for Comedy Central before moving to Paramount+; it was first announced in 2024, based on Sega's 1989 arcade game.
