Producer Aaron Dessner has denied that Gracie Abrams' song "Death Wish," from her new album Daughter From Hell, is about Taylor Swift, calling the speculation "definitely not" accurate. The rumour had circulated online after fans questioned the song's biting lyrics and noted that Abrams was previously Swift's Eras Tour support act, despite Abrams only ever speaking positively about Swift and even attending her wedding to Travis Kelce this month.

Speaking to Billboard, Dessner explained that the upbeat studio version of "Death Wish" actually predates the stripped-back live piano version fans heard first, having been written months earlier during the same sessions as tracks on The Secret of Us deluxe edition. He said the song was instead inspired by a friend of Abrams' who had been dating "a mega narcissist," echoing comments Abrams herself has previously made about the track's true subject.
