Veteran financial journalist Alan Kohler is retiring from the ABC at the end of the year, after 31 years with the broadcaster and 24 years as a leading finance presenter. He said he wants to spend more time with his family, while ABC managing director Hugh Marks praised his role in helping audiences understand complex issues.

Kohler began as a business and economics correspondent and became the face of *Inside Business*, known for signing off with “And that’s finance.” He has also written for major Australian newspapers, founded *The Eureka Report* and *Business Spectator*, and currently writes a weekly column and hosts the *That’s Business* podcast. Appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2019, he has recently commented on economic pressures including interest rates, falling consumer confidence and the risk of recession.
